Midway Marina

After leaving Bay Springs we traveled through three locks without any difficulty, Whitten, Montgomery and Rankin. The Whitten lock was an impressive 80 foot drop. We had no delays in locking through these three, hopefully a sign of things to come. The Wilson lock had left a lasting impression on us. We had mastered the bow and midship tie up, which stabilized the boat while locking through.
Midway Marina is located in Fulton Mississippi on the Tombigbee waterway. There are relatively few marinas located on this stretch of the loop and we were quite appreciative of those that are. Midway Marina is small and somewhat challenged, although the people working there were quite helpful and extremely accommodating. At this time of the year, there is a large contingent of loopers at this marina, usually filling the harbor to capacity.
We battled wind through most of the day and were relieved to arrive at the marina. There is one long, transient dock, perpendicular to the shoreline, but quite close to the stump f, pictured above. The day we arrived fairly strong, solidly wind was pushing boats away from the dock and toward the stump field. This made for some interesting maneuvering, particularly because any boat going to the fuel dock, had to pass the transient dock and the boats tied up there on its way. There was a courtesy car which we availed ourselves twice in two days to visit Fulton Mississippi in some small surrounding towns. We found a local diner across the river in Peppertown which was fun.
There was also a restaurant and a fire circle at the marina. Dinner with friends (LaLa 3: Duncan & Ali at Gus' Restaurant) and docktails were much appreciated on this otherwise pretty empty portion of the waterway.
