On our journey north, we once again we're able to visit one of our favorite towns on the West Coast of Michigan, Grand Haven. We had spent nearly a week the previous on our way southward to Holland, Michigan. At that time, there were precious few tourists remaining and most of the town was shut up tight. Most notably, the musical fountain, a light and water attraction which has occurred nightly for 60 years between Memorial Day and Labor Day was not active. Therefore, we had never seen it, but were thrilled with the nightly showonthis visit. They choreograph the fountains and lights to music and a different program occurs every night. Before the Bellagio was built in Las Vegas, this was the largest fountain display in the world. What made it really cool is that it was an initiative proposed by a local man and built over the years by the community. It remains a nonprofit and is supported by donations. The program begins at 10 PM which was somewhat of a struggle given our looper schedule of trying to be asleep about then. However, it was nightly ritual and when we really enjoyed.
We were able to enjoy the restaurants, most notably, Anna's restaurant, where we had some fantastic breakfast, just as we had in October 2023. We were able to explore the town a little more than previously. We also hosted a looper get together on our flybridge one evening.
We took our bikes and explored the community. We rode along the beaches, discovered new restaurants, and rode up Honeymoon Hill in the suburbs of Grand Haven.
In the course of our exploration, we discovered a miniatures museum in Grand Haven. This was not about doll houses, but rather artistic representations of architecture housed in an old restored home. The displays were really interesting and the vintage photographs hanging on the walls of the home were a lot of fun too.
