We stayed at the municipal docks in Ludington, which can only be described as narrow and rickety. Getting into the municipal marina was several sharp turns and a little bit of help from the Marina staff. The Marina was pretty close to town but town is a little rough, however, with lots of traffic and marginal restaurants.
However, there was an absolutely fantastic Maritime Museum near the old Coast Guard station located near the inlet from Lake Michigan. This museum appeared to focus on shipwrecks, storms and the history of the Lake. Ludington is best known because it is the terminus of the Manitowoc, Wisconsin to Ludington, Michigan ferry, which remains in operation on the only remaining steamship on Lake Michigan, SS Badger. By the time we arrived, the Badger had closed for the season and was tied up close to the marina. The town had a distinct semi deserted feel as the tourists had departed. We had dinner at the House of Flavors, probably better known as the House of Desserts and the Sportsman's Bar and Grill, which was better and more fun.
