Following a more than three week stay in Sturgeon Bay, it was time to depart and to begin our journey south. We had also grown somewhat rusty at the controls following our three week vacation in Sturgeon Bay, but quickly regained the feel of cruising on a 40 mile jaunt southward back to Manitowoc. We had paused here for several days on our way to Sturgeon Bay and were actually reassigned our old slip on our return . The journey and our dockage were uncomplicated and we stayed for two days to wait for a better weather window to move on to Port Washington.
Old habits die hard so on the evening of our arrival, our dinner consisted entirely of ice cream sundaes at the confectionery. We also took the opportunity on the following day to leisurely tour a World War II era, submarine, the USS Cobia, which is docked at the Maritime Museum. We had thoroughly explored the Maritime Museum during our previous visit, but had not taken a tour of the submarine. This submarine, while built in Groton, Connecticut, and not in Manitowoc, is very well preserved and restored. The tour, both guided and self guided, was a highlight.
