We really knew very little about Port Washington, WI before our arrival other than it was a convenient marina stop between Manitowoc and Racine.. So, we had no real expectations. On arriving there, we saw the 1930s style lighthouse at the entrance to the harbor and were surprised to find the water within the harbor a cerulean blue. The marina is fairly compact, but really well maintained, clean and well organized with lots of dock help and close proximity to a historic downtown. By coincidence, we had arrived just in time for Fish Days, a three day annual summer event which featured a large fish fry, a parade, crowds and live music around town.

We really enjoyed exploring the downtown, particularly the restaurants, the local historical society museum, and some of the shops. Just sitting on the flybridge and watching the activity in the marina and the sunsets was a particular treat. So, we went from no expectations to discovering one of our favorite towns on Lake Michigan.

Emily, Anthony G, Eleanor, Henry and Banjo stayed with us overnight in the middle of their trip from Knoxville to Minneapolis. We went out for an Italian dinner, spent time on the fly bridge with them, and after a good nights rest, walked out the breakwater to visit, the lighthouse.

We also visited the 1860 Lighthouse an historic structure located on the hill behind town.
