Sturgeon Bay & Death's Door

Following a 50 mile jaunt northward along the Wisconsin coast, we entered the Sturgeon Bay Canal located at the base of the Door County Peninsula. The canal is guarded by a Coast Guard station and leads to the city of Sturgeon Bay and then onward to Green Bay. We had arranged a slip at CenterPoint Marina in Sturgeon Bay and were assigned to the end of C dock on a T head where Katie B remained for the next three weeks. While this was someone exposed, it afforded a panoramic view of the bay and lift bridges. An additional benefit was a gentle rocking motion through the night producing unparalleled sleep. the marina was new, well kept with a great clubhouse and pool. We thoroughly enjoyed the facilities during our stay.

The town of Sturgeon Bay is well developed, clean and offers some good restaurants, interesting shops, and another Maritime museum.

This Maritime Museum featured an ocean going tug from the 1800s which we were fortunate to tour.

While in Sturgeon Bay, we rented a car and explored Door County, most notably, Fish Creek and Egg Harbor as well as the Cana Island lighthouse. We used the same car to travel to the Green Bay airport for a six day trip to Knoxville for a July 4th Bottini Family reunion. Following our return to Katie B, Ryan and Sarah drove from Minneapolis and visited for four days while they also explored Door County. We had a great time with them, including dinners in Fish Creek and Egg Harbor as well as quiet evenings on the flybridge in Sturgeon Bay.
